You may choose to follow the guide as we have laid it out, or you may find that your child should start in a different place. As your child’s teacher you will know how best to match this guide to your child’s schedule, developmental level and prior knowledge.
Something to keep in mind before you begin is that different subjects require different considerations. Content-based subjects such as botany, zoology, history, etc., are flexible and don’t always require prior knowledge. For example, a child can study, comprehend, and master the parts of a flower without knowing that a flower is a part of a plant.
Other subjects such as math and language are skill-based or knowledge-based. A child would not be able to perform an arithmetic operation without previous knowledge of the numerals and their values. Progress through knowledge-based subjects will therefore differ from child to child. A guide for these subjects should not be based on a timeframe, rather they should be taught at an appropriate pace for your child.
