The exercises in this manual are designed for use with the large bead
cabinet. This is a very expensive piece of material that often stands
unused in many classrooms. These exercises are off experiences to the
very young child, eager to touch the bead material.
Children who are
just beginning may be shown the bead chains in the same manner as the
Red and Blue Numerical Rods. Children under three will enjoy the fun of
carrying the chains to a rug, arranging them in a stair, then hanging
them on the cabinet hooks. These exercises will offer an introduction to
the bead cabinet to the older child who may have had little or no
pre-primary experience.
Use of the material on a sensorial level
provides the opportunity to isolate language and relationships of the
materials before entering the mathematical stage.
